Leonard ‘Doc’ Thomas

Leonard “DOC” Thomas, the 3rd of seven children, was born Nov. 19, 1959, to Walter  and Elsie Thomas of Woodland Park. Leonard graduated from Baldwin Community School in 1978 and worked following graduation at Pattie Drug, Jack Keller Ford and thereafter at the U.S. Post Office in Baldwin for many years

Leonard became known as “DOC” in his teenage years after his brothers and friends discovered his love for the cartoon “Doc Savage.” After Doc built a secret underground fort, where he would only allow his brothers and some friends to come down to hang out and play, the name just stuck with him.

Doc was very well known in the community and was loved by all who met him. He was a caring man who gave unselfishly to anyone who asked. Leonard liked to socialize, fish, hunt, watch old western movies and attend family gatherings.

Doc is proceeded in death by his father, Walter Thomas and sister Adella Thomas. Leonard is survived by his mother, Elsie Thomas of Big Rapids, MI; Brother(s) Michael Thomas of California and Dean Thomas of Texas; Sisters Deborah (Richard) Martin of Brandon, Florida, Sharon Thomas of Grand Rapids, MI and Mary (Erick) Doke of Big Rapids, MI; a host of nieces and nephews and bunches of friends.

Leonard certainly held God close to his heart. He attended the Church of Christ under the ministry of Rev. Sims and was a strong believer in doing right onto others. Leonard will surely be missed by all who knew him and his memories will forever be with us.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 5, 2014 at Church of Christ at 1220 US 10, Baldwin, MI 49304. Repass immediately following.
