Lake County community events calendar

The Osceola-Lake Conservation Hazardous Household Waste collection will be from 9 a.m. to noon, Oct. 8 at the Wenger Pavilion in downtown Baldwin, behind Jones Ice Cream Parlor. For more information call 231-745-2732.

The Lake County Historical Museum will present Baldwin Founders Day tribute ceremony at 3 p.m., Oct. 8, at Wenger Pavilion in downtown Baldwin. The event will pay homage to families who helped settle Baldwin. Certificates will be presented to ancestors. State Representative Scott VanSingel will present a tribute to the Village of Baldwin. This is the final event in celebration of Baldwin Sesquicentennial.

The Lake County Democratic Party will host a “Free Yard Sign in the Park” event from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Oct 8 and Oct. 22, at 4016 M-37 (across the street from Barski’s), Baldwin.

The Michigan State University Extension Service will host a Michigan Cottage Food Law training at 3 p.m., Oct. 11, via ZOOM. For more information visit events.anr.msu.edu/MICottageFoodLaw.

Hollister Senior Center in Baldwin will host a Cooking Matters class from 2 to 3:30 p.m., Oct. 18, presented by the Michigna State University Extension Community Nutrition Program. Space is limited. To reserve a spot call 231-745-6965. 

CrossRoads Theatre in Reed City will present “The Girls In 509” at 7 p.m., Oct. 7 and 8, and at 2 p.m., Oct. 9. At CrossRoads Theatre Guild and Performing Arts Center, 249 W. Upton Ave., Reed City. For reservations call 231-465-4044.

Oxford Farm corn maze and pumpkin patch, located at 1799 S. 155th Ave., Hersey, is open now through Oct. 16. Maze entry is $5. A farm store offers donuts and cider, popcorn, caramel apples, coffee, fall décor and more. Hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturdays and 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sundays.

The Luther Lions Club will host a fundraiser auction and taco bar dinner, featuring Willie Holmes, from 6 p.m. until finished, Oct. 22. The event will be BTOB. Auction items include a Yeti cooler, Volcano grill, prize baskets and more.

The Salvation Army of Big Rapids has opened a Fresh Start Baby Pantry for families with children under age 5 in Mecosta, Osceola, Lake and Newaygo counties. Hours of operation are from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. For more information visit sabigrapids.org.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5315 hosts Bar Bingo every Wednesday beginning at 3:30 p.m. and Queen of Hearts drawing at 5 p.m. Public is welcome at the post, 2225 S M-37, Baldwin. For more information call 231-745-2134.

The Luther Lions Club will host an all you can eat breakfast from 9 to 11 a.m., the first Sunday of every month. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children 6 to 12. Breakfast will include biscuits and gravy, ham, sausage, scrambled eggs, potatoes, French toast, pancakes, orange juice and coffee.

The Duane E. Dewey AMVETS Post 1988 hosts Euchre at 1 p.m., every Monday, at the AMVETS hall, 1959 W. 24th St., Baldwin. For more information call 231- 745-2550.
