Lake County 4-H youth attended disaster preparation classes recently presented by Red Fox Tactical Training, an organization that provides emergency and technical response training for first responders and law enforcement.

They’re either slower than molasses in January or quicker than a dog towards a bone…and now the youth of Lake County are ready for them! As many youth descended on the town of Baldwin to begin the yearly quest of securing sugary treats while dressed up in costumes, a group of Lake County youth had a quick stop to make first.
Along with being Halloween, Oct. 31 marked the third and final session of the Lake County 4-H Zombie Preppers Squad, a 4-H program dedicated to helping youth learn about preparing for natural disasters…and even for a Zombie Apocalypse. Over the course of three sessions, 10 participants were able to take part in activities such as how to bandage a wound, how to generate heat without electricity, how to assemble a first aid and emergency kit, and much more.
The classes were taught by the wonderful folks at Red Fox Tactical Training out of Wellston, MI. Red Fox Tactical Training is an organization that provides all manner of intermediate and advanced emergency and technical response training for first responders and law enforcement. All of our participants greatly enjoyed interacting with Cody Carlson, Red Fox Tactical Training’s representative and the lead 4-H Zombie Preppers Squad instructor.

If you have a youth that was unable to take part in the program, fear not! With the success of this first program, the Lake County 4-H Zombie Preppers will be returning in 2023. Participants will have the chance to learn about how to survive without electricity, how to shelter in place, how to assemble emergency supplies and more!
