First major snowfall hits Lake County

LAKE COUNTY — Last week hunters were thrilled to have a coating of snow on the ground for opening day of deer rifle season. By Thursday, the landscape turned into a winter wonderland, welcomed by some, but causing disruptions and dangerous conditions on the roads.

The winter system lasted through the weekend, with the Lake County Road Commission out clearing roads.

The consistent snow caused sloppy conditions, with some vehicles going into ditches, even causing a pileup near the Tustin exit on U.S. 131.

Despite the harsh conditions, the thick snow offered a tranquil setting, and was a welcome sign for winter sports enthusiasts and business owners geared toward the winter season.

The picturesque snow-covered scenery also has ushered in a sense of Christmastime spirit, as many groups and organizations begin hosting holiday festivities.
