BALDWIN — As an outreach to mothers of young children, Seeds of Promise Family Support Center, in Baldwin, hosted a car seat safety check event last Tuesday.

A team of certified Child Passenger Safety experts checked car seats and provided new ones as necessary.

This program, offered through the Michigan State Police's Office of Highway Safety Planning, gives low-income families the information and resources they need to help young children travel safely.

The giveaway was a success, organizers said, with 16 car seats checked for safety and 11 car seats replaced, at a value of $770.

Techs involved in helping the families were Sarah Meeuwes and Rose Ward, of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services; Sami Scusa and Tina Edmonds, of District Health Department No. 10; Michigan State Police Trooper Todd Goodrich; and Holly Alway, of Trinity Health.

Alway, who helped with the event, thanked the volunteers for “helping families travel safely.”

The next car seat giveaway event will be 1-4 p.m. June 14 at Hollister Park in Baldwin.
