Kraft Heinz is recalling a flavor of Capri Sun after a diluted cleaning solution "inadvertently" was introduced in the production line and got into the beverage. The cleaning solution is used on food processing equipment at the company's factories.

The company announced the recall in a press release on Friday, explaining that all of the recalled cherry Capri Sun has a best-when-used-by date of June 25, 2023.

"The issue was discovered after we received several consumer complaints about the taste of the affected product," Kraft Heinz said in the release. "The Company is actively working with retail partners and distributors to remove potentially impacted product from circulation."

Product details are:

  • Capri Sun Wild Cherry Flavored Juice Drink Blend, 6.6-fluid ounces, foil pouches packaged in paperboard cartons, manufacturer’s code on the pouch is 25JUN2023 WXX LYY and manufacturer’s code on the carton is 25JUN2023 WXX CT1404

Kraft also noted in the release cases shipped to retailers include four cartons that are shrink-wrapped together. And the product is sold by the carton at retail.

Bought the drink?

People who purchased the affected flavor should not consume the product and can return it to the store where it was purchased, according to the company in the release.
