Baldwin holds first Christmas light parade, tree lighting

BALDWIN — The Christmas festivities in downtown Baldwin took a new turn this year, with the first ever Christmas light parade, taking place in the evening, with a ceremony following to light the community Christmas tree.

The Village of Baldwin Downtown Development Authority always makes a special effort to decorate the town pretty for Christmas time, but this year Baldwin was more dazzling than ever. The evening festivities Friday, Dec. 2, really set off the tone and brought the community together.

Parade floats and entrees lit the streets while strains of favorite Christmas melodies echoed through the streets by members of the Baldwin School band, who had their clarinets, percussion sets, and other instruments aglow with lights. Plodding of horses carrying  a sleigh with Santa and Mrs. Santa also could be heard.

After the parade, everyone gathered at the Brown Trout Sculpture park area, where the band played some more. Jane Allson, president of Baldwin DDA, welcomed everyone for the first annual tree lighting and light-themed parade and then lit the community Christmas tree.

"Thank you to all those that participated and attended our first annual Friday night Christmas light parade and Christmas tree lighting. It was a huge success and fun for all," Allison said. "Put Dec. 1, 2023, Friday night on your calendars for the second annual Christmas light parade and activities. Thank you to our local community for making this so successful."

People had an opportunity to tie pre-cut ribbons on the tree and make a Christmas wish for a Christmas blessing. Ribbons are available at Baldwin Lumber for those who still wish to do so. People also took group pictures at the lit tree.
