BALDWIN — For the past 12 years, a number of Lake County area churches have joined together to put deeds to action — walking to combat hunger during the annual CROP Walk.

This year, just as last year, the campaign will kick off 21 days prior for daily devotion and prayer leading up to the walk. Those interested in participating can pick up devotionals, walk packets, sign-up forms, and other materials and information needed, at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7, at the Lake Fellowship Ministries Community Center (9741 S. M-37, Baldwin.)

This will be a time for a short hello, prayer and send-out, according to Pastor Bruce Whitney, of Baldwin Congregational Church and LFM. He also will have booklets available at the church for free pick-up.

CROP hunger walks is an interfaith worldwide event to rally neighbors to walk together to raise funds to end hunger in their communities and globally.

All funds for the walk fight hunger and poverty, with 25% staying in the community, 25% each given to regional, national and international hunger ministries of Church World Service and Christian Mission Service. All Roman Catholic participants should make their checks out to Bread of Life Food Pantry, organizers ask.

The actual CROP walk will be at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, at Baldwin Congregational Church (870 Beech St., Baldwin), for a time of celebration and praise, with music by Skylight Quartet. Participants will rally with the CROP Walk banner through town. The Golden Shoe, Prayer Warrior and Step Up awards will be presented.
