True leaders aren’t born; they’re grown. Volunteer with 4-H and help grow true leaders in the community by empowering young people with skills to lead for a lifetime. Volunteers make 4-H possible. With each volunteer comes new knowledge, experiences and skills. Built on a model of positive youth development, 4-H encourages young people, guided by adult leaders and mentors, to develop new skills, confidence and compassion. This helps them to grow self-reliant, strong, curious enough to question and capable enough to find the answers. 4-H works because 4-H empowers young people with skills and meaningful leadership opportunities. It is based on a hands-on learning-by-doing philosophy. 4-H’s reach and depth is unmatched. 4-H reaches youth in every state and in every corner of America from urban neighborhoods to rural farming communities — all through a network of volunteers. This dedicated, dynamic force of volunteers provides caring, supportive mentoring to over 6 million 4-H’ers nation-wide and has been for more than 100 years. Volunteers have opportunities with photography, knitting, crocheting, sewing, arts and crafts, gardening, food and nutrition, folk patterns, fashion buymanship, baseball/softball, shooting sports, archery, horses and small animals.
