West Shore to host education open house

SCOTTVILLE - West Shore Community College (WSCC) and Ferris State University (FSU) will host an Education Open House for prospective students wishing to learn about FSU’s Early Childhood and Elementary Education Bachelor degree programs offered on the WSCC campus.

The open house will be held on April 12, at 6:30 p.m., in the MBT room of the Administrative and Conference Building.

WSCC and FSU faculty will be available during the open house to advise students interested in obtaining the degree.

Lisa Morley, WSCC Professor of Early Childhood Education, says the key features of the program make it an affordable and practical choice for area residents.

“We are the only community college in northwest Michigan offering the degree and students will be able to earn a Bachelor’s of Science degree from FSU entirely on the WSCC campus.” She adds, “Because the majority of the courses are offered by West Shore, and because of the easy accessibility to the college, the cost of the program is a very affordable choice.”

In addition to the Bachelor’s degree, the WSCC program offers an Associates of Applied Arts & Science Degree in Early Childhood Education, a one-year certification in Early Childhood Education, a ZA/ZS Endorsement for Elementary Certification, and an Associate of Arts Degree: emphasis in Early Childhood Education for students transferring to Michigan State University and FSU.

The program further enables early childhood directors or lead teachers to meet increased State of Michigan licensing requirements in the administration of early childhood programs.
