ELK TWP. — Disastrous weather can occur in a moment’s notice, especially during tornado season. Area residents will have an opportunity to learn how to identify severe weather and prepare for the worst during a free weather spotter training course.

The training is presented by the National Weather Service and Lake County Emergency Management from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 21 at the Elk Township Hall, 8966 N. Bass Lake Road, Irons.

“This event is open to the public and I hope people come out and learn how to spot storms,” said Elk Township Supervisor Lou Fitz who is excited about the event.

National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration Meteorologist Jim Maczo will be the featured guest.

“Topics include basics of storm development, fundamentals of storm structure, identifying potential severe weather features, information to report, how to report information and basic severe weather safety,” said Lake County Sheriff Rich Martin.
