WSCC holds college finance seminar

SCOTTVILLE - West Shore Community College’s Financial Aid Office will host two financial aid workshops on campus for prospective college students and their families. High school students as well as adults considering going to college are encouraged to attend one of these workshops.

“We will be offering workshops to help students complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, online. Students can be planning to attend any college, university or other post-secondary institution and we will help them complete their FAFSA,” said Juliann Murphy, WSCC director of financial aid.

Students should bring their 2010 W-2’s and Federal Income Tax returns, if they file, as well as their parents if they are under 24.

The workshops will be held from 6 - 8 p.m. on Wed, Feb. 23, and from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. on Sat., Feb. 26. The workshops will be in the WSCC Technical Center computer lab, room 210. Students will receive assistance to complete the FAFSA online.

“Many people don’t realize that now is the time to begin investigating financial aid and scholarship opportunities for the 2011 school year,” states Murphy. “Students could miss out on grants and scholarships by beginning the process too late. Many students also mistakenly think they will not qualify and never complete the application so we encourage all students to complete the FAFSA.”
