Troutarama announces dates for 2017 festival and fishing contest

BALDWIN — The Baldwin Troutarama Committee is pleased to announce the 2017 Troutarama will take place on Wednesday, July 19, to Sunday, July 23, 2017. This will be the 61st year for Lake County's oldest festival.

The committee reports the beer tent has been ordered, a carnival contract has been signed and other plans for the festival are under way.

Anyone who would like to assist with this year's festival can attend a monthly Troutarama meeting which take place at 11 a.m. on the second Monday of each month at the Baldwin Business Center/Wenger Insurance Office. To keep updated on the 2017 Troutarama contact the Troutarama website at www.troutarama.com. Any suggestions for the 2017 festival can be submitted in writing at the Wenger Insurance Agency.

With there being fishable ice on local lakes the Troutarama committee would like to remind all area fishermen the Annual Troutarama Fishing Contest opened Jan. 1st. The contest runs from Jan. 1, 2017 to the Wednesday of Troutarama, July 19. There are 10 categories in the contest: brook, brown and rainbow trout, large and small mouth bass, bluegills, perch, crappies, walleye and northern pike.

There are two age groups: 14 years and under, and then 15 and older. There is no charge for entering a fish and a person can enter as many times as they wish.

Rules for the contest are:

n fresh or live fish only (no frozen fish.)

n fish must be caught in Lake County

n fishermen can weigh-in/register their catches at Balwdin Bait and Tackle, Ed's Sport Shop of the Pere Marquette River Lodge.

There is a $25 first prize for the largest fish in each category. The prizes awarded in each category will be gift certificates to the three participating sport shops. There is also a $100 grand prize awarded for the largest fish in any category closest to the current state record for that species.

As the Troutarama mascot, Teddy the Trout says, "Catch a big one!" Then enter it in the Troutarama fishing contest. So all ice-fishermen, remember the contest is open for ice-fishing as well as for spring and summer time anglers.
