Trial court

The following actions were taken in Lake County Trial Court the week ending September 6, 2013:

  •  Russel Brian Ackley, 38, of Baldwin, was bound over to Circuit Court on charges of operating under the influence-third offense, fleeing police-third degree and driving while license suspended/allowing a suspended person to operate.
  •  Scott Emory Butler, 22, of Kalamazoo, pleaded guilty to an added charge of operating impaired. The defendant was sentenced to fines and costs of $1,100 and 93 days in jail at the discretion of the court over the next year. A charge of operating while intoxicated/impaired/in the presence of a controlled substance-second offense was dismissed.
  •  Michael Patrick Cull, 35, of Irons, pleaded guilty to a charge of assault/assault and battery. The defendant was sentenced to fines and costs of $275 and 93 days in jail at the discretion of the court over the next year. A no contact with the victim order was continued.
  •  Devonte Laron Dukes, 21, of Baldwin, was arraigned on a charge of malicious destruction of personal property less than $200. A pretrial was scheduled for September 19, 2013 at 11 a.m. Bond was set at $2,500, ten percent.
  •  Loretta Jane Hamblin, 39, of Baldwin, had a charge of operating a motor vehicle without security dismissed.
  •  Edward Lamarr Hanson, 32, of Idlewild, was arraigned on a charge of disorderly person-drunk. A notice of criminal plea was entered for September 9, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. Bond was set at $2,500, ten percent.
  •  Matthew John Hizer, 31, of Portage, was arraigned on a charge of driving while license suspended, allowing a suspended person to operate/second subsequent offense. A pretrial was scheduled for September 19, 2013 at 2 p.m. Bond of $5,000, ten percent was continued.
  •  Jesse Duwayne Lewis Jr., 30, of Baldwin, was arraigned on a charge of possession of a controlled substance-marijuana. A pretrial was scheduled for September 19, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. Bond of $2,500, ten percent was continued.
  •  Fred W. Syers, 57, of Luther, was bound over to Circuit Court on charges of delivery/manufacture of a controlled substance/marijuana and firearms-altering ID marks. Bond of $2,500, ten percent was continued.
  •  Connor Steven Thomsen, 21, of Greenville, was arraigned on charges of possession of a controlled substance-marijuana and possession of alcohol in a motor vehicle by a passenger. A pretrial was scheduled for September 19, 2013 at 11 a.m. Bond of $3,500, ten percent, was posted.
  •  Joshua Dillon Wassenaar, 26, of Baldwin, pleaded guilty to a charge of larceny-$200-$1,000. The defendant was sentenced to one year in jail, to serve 60 days now with credit for time served of 15 days and the balance at the discretion of the court over the next year. The defendant also plead guilty to parole violation and was sentenced to 60 days in jail, with credit for time served of 15 days. Parole was revoked.
