The following actions were taken in Lake County Trial Court the week ending May 1:

  • Eddie Wayne Abbott Jr., 38, of Idlewild, was arraigned on a charge of breaking and entering-a building, with intent. A preliminary examination was scheduled for May 20, 2014 at 1:30 p.m.
  • John Stephan Bozek, of Rodney, was arraigned on a charge of sex offender-failure to comply with report duties. A preliminary examination and arraignment on a bench warrant for failure to appear was scheduled for May 20, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. Bond was set at $5,000, ten percent.
  • Michael Patrick Cull, 36, of Irons, was arraigned on charges of operating a motor vehicle without security, driving while license suspended/allowing suspended person to operate, and improper plates. A pretrial was scheduled for May 15, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. The defendant was free on personal recognizance bond.
  • David Peter Duane, 50, of Baldwin, pleaded guilty to a charge of truancy. The defendant was sentenced to fines and costs of $275, 90 days in jail at the discretion of the court over the next year and one day in jail for each day the child is not in school.
  • Tarry William Erb, 56, of Baldwin, was arraigned on a charge of operating with a high blood alcohol content. A pretrial was scheduled for May 15, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. Bond of $3,500, ten percent was posted.
  • Dominique Laquan Gadlen, 25, of Lansing, pleaded no contest to a charge of assault with a dangerous weapon. Sentencing was scheduled for June 3, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. Bond was continued.
  • Carl Lee Herring Jr., 23, of Idlewild, was arraigned on two charges of breaking and entering-a building with intent, two charges of habitual offender/second offense notice, and a charge of resisting and obstructing a police officer. A preliminary examination was scheduled for May 20, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. Bond was set at $15,000, ten percent with a condition of no contact with the victim.
  • Jowana Shawndora Holmes, 30, of Comstock Park, had a charge of malicious destruction of personal property less than $200 dismissed.
  • Mark Jerome Johnson, 58, of Baldwin, pleaded guilty to a charge of retail fraud-third degree. The defendant was sentenced to fines and costs of $275, victim’s restitution of $18., 93 days in jail, to serve 30 days now with credit for time served of eight days and the balance of 22 days over seven weekends to begin May 9, 2014 and no entry at Ace Hardware for a year.
  • Jacquelyn Marie Koegler, 31, of Branch, was arraigned on a charge of failure to appear. A preliminary examination was scheduled for May 20, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. Bond was set at $2,500, ten percent.
  • Jeffrey Jacob Alan Little, 21, of Idlewild, pleaded no contest to a charge of criminal sexual conduct-third multiple variables. The defendant was sentenced to 36 years to 15 years with the Department of Corrections, fines and costs of $68., crime victims restitution of $130 and no contact with the victim. A second charge of criminal sexual contact-third multiple variables was dismissed.
  • Joshua Michael Mead, 35, of Baldwin, pleaded guilty to charges of possession of a controlled substance-marijuana and an added charge of driving while license suspended/allowing a suspended person to operate. The defendant was sentenced to one year in jail, to serve 33 days now with credit for time served and 93 days in jail, to serve 33 days now with credit for time served and the balance at the discretion of the court over the next year. A charge of driving while license suspended/allowing a suspended person to operate/second subsequent was dismissed.
  • Derek Alan Mock Sr., 41, of Baldwin, pleaded guilty to an added charge of non-sufficient funds less than $100. The defendant was sentenced to fines and costs of $275, victim’s restitution of $117, 93 days in jail to serve nine now with credit for time served and the balance at the discretion of the court over the next year. Charges of uttering and publishing and habitual offender/second offense notice were dismissed.
  • Jackie Sue Simmons, 37, of Baldwin, was arraigned on a charge of receiving and concealing stolen property-less than $200. A pretrial was scheduled for May 15, 2014 at 11 a.m. The defendant was free on personal recognizance bond.
  • Tracy Allan Sturzman, 47, of Ludlow, IL, was arraigned on two charges of criminal sexual conduct-first degree (person under 13/defendant 17 or older). A preliminary examination was scheduled for May 20, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. The defendant was free on personal recognizance bond.
  • Penny Sue Thayer, 62, of Baldwin, was arraigned on a charge of operating a motor vehicle without security. A pretrial was scheduled for May 15, 2014 at 9 a.m. The defendant was free on personal recognizance bond.
  • Paul Russell Watson, 64, of Wayland, pleaded guilty to a charge of criminal sexual conduct/first degree (person under 13). The defendant was sentenced to six years, nine months to 30 years, concurrent with Barry County, with credit for time served of 111 days, fines and costs of $68 and victim’s restitution of $130.
  • Eric John Woods, 30, of Idlewild, was arraigned on two charges of breaking and entering/without breaking/with intent. A preliminary examination was scheduled for May 20, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. Bond was set at $5,000, ten percent with a condition of no contact with the victim.
  • Christopher Allen Zweigle, 39, of Branch, pleaded guilty to a charge of breaking and entering, illegal entry without owners permission. The defendant was sentenced to 90 days in jail, to serve 30 now with credit for time served and the balance at the discretion of the court over the next year and no contact with the victim.
