Trial Court

The following actions were taken in Lake County Trial Court the week ending April 28, 2015:

  • Fred Arthur Christmas, 56, of Scottville, pleaded guilty in Circuit Court to a charge of firearms-possession by a felon. The defendant was sentenced to 12 months probation, six months jail, 90 days now with credit for time served of two days, fines and costs of $668, crime victims rights of $130 and supervision fee of $120. Charges of possession of a controlled substance-less than 25 grams and domestic violence were dismissed. A condition of no contact with the victim was continued.
  • Javonty Lamar Mansfield, 22, of Baldwin, pleaded guilty in Circuit Court to charges of home invasion-second degree and habitual offender-third offense notice. The defendant was sentenced to 24 to 30 months with Michigan Department of Corrections, with credit for time served of 120 days, fines and costs of $68, crime victims rights of $130 and restitution of $9,380. A charge of safe breaking was dismissed.
  • Dwight Alan Mason, 38, of Baldwin, was bound over to Circuit Court on a charge of child abuse-third degree.
  • Dallas Trent Roper, 22, of Big Rapids, was bound over to Circuit Court on a charge of home Invasion-third degree.
  • Lloyd Harold Springfield, 30, of Baldwin, pleaded guilty in Circuit Court to a charge of assault of a prison employee. The defendant was sentenced to 160 days in jail, with credit for time served, fines and costs of $68 and crime victims restitution of $130.
  • David Alan Stinson, 36, of Baldwin, pleaded guilty to an added charge of driving while license suspended/allowing a suspended person to operate. The defendant was sentenced to fines and costs of $275 and 93 days in jail at the discretion of the court over the next year. A charge of driving while license suspended/allowing a suspended person to operate/second/subsequent was dismissed.
  • David Craig Thomas II, 41, of Idlewild, pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of a controlled substance-marijuana. The defendant was sentenced to fines and costs of $375, one year in jail at the discretion of the court over the next year, license suspended for one year with a restricted license after 30 days. Charges of driving while license suspended/allowing a suspended person to operate/second/subsequent, operating a motor vehicle without security and improper plates were dismissed.
  • Derek Allen Williams, 38, of Idlewild, had a charge of sex offender-failure to comply-third notice and a charge of sex offender-failure to comply-attempted, dismissed.
  • James Dean Woodworth, 20, of Scottville, pleaded no contest in Circuit Court to a charge of criminal sexual conduct-third-person 13 to 15. The defendant was sentenced to four years three months to 15 years with credit for time served of 134 days, fines and costs of $68 and crime victims restitution of $130.
