Team Rubicon, Habitat for Humanity build a Lake County veteran a home

WEBBER TOWNSHIP — The dream of homeownership is becoming reality for a Lake County veteran and his wife.

Military veterans from Team Rubicon and other volunteers gathered last weekend to raise the walls and trusses for a local veteran in Webber Township through the Lake County Habitat for Humanity. Joined by two staff members from Habitat Michigan, the veteran partner and his neighbor, all had a sense of unified purpose as they worked through the cold, rain, snow and mud, fueled by a desire to help someone in need. The efforts of volunteers on this build site in Webber has helped launch a local military veteran and his wife on their journey to homeownership.

United by a need to serve and a camaraderie for aiding those in need, Team Rubicon is a service organization with a focus on lifting its volunteers as much as it lifts those in need. You can join Team Rubicon and other volunteers in the coming weeks to provide meaningful and impactful service that builds homes, community, and hope.

The community came through to welcome Team Rubicon and the rest of the crew by providing meals and welcoming the volunteers with a grateful heart. Special thanks to the VFW for an evening meal and entertainment, AmVets for a delicious breakfast, M-37 Meat Shack for discounted food, and the Board and Staff of Lake County Habitat for their meal contributions to the effort.

Lake County Habitat for Humanity is thrilled to help make the dream of home ownership a reality for even more Lake County families. Lake County Habitat for Humanity is driven by the belief that everyone needs a decent place to live. Families and individuals in need of a hand up partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Through financial support, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability, and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves.

Team Rubicon is coming again next weekend, and we need your help to get this home built! Learn how you can join as a volunteer and support us with a financial gift or donation by calling your local Lake County Habitat for Humanity at 231-745- 2688.
