TRIAL COURT 4-19-2012

The following actions were taken in Lake County trial court for the week ending Thursday, Apr. 12, 2012:

  • Tyrell Steven Gilbert, 36, of Kalamazoo, pleaded not guilty to a charge of driving while license suspended/allowing a suspended person to operate (second or subsequent offense). The defendant failed to appear in court; an additional plea hearing was scheduled for Apr. 16. He was found in contempt of court and sentenced to serve 15 days (five days CTS). Bond was continued at $5,000; the defendant was currently lodged.
  • David Louis Lee Jr., 34, of Flint, pleaded guilty to a charge of having defective equipment. A charge of driving while license suspended/allowing a suspended person to operate (second or subsequent offense) was dismissed. The defendant was sentenced to pay fines and costs of $110.
  • Roy Henry Wright, 55, of Cadillac, pleaded no contest to a charge of disorderly person/drunk. A charge of domestic violence was dismissed. The defendant was sentenced to serve 60 days (47 days CTS).
  • Jeffrey Allen Huizenga, 62, of Muskegon, pleaded guilty to a charge of driving while license suspended/allowing a suspended person to operate (second or subsequent offense). The defendant was sentenced to pay fines and costs of $350 and to serve one year; 14 days now and the balance at the discretion of the court within one year.
  • Mark Joseph Simko, 42, of Garden City, was arraigned on a charge of unlawful driving away of an auto. Preliminary examination was scheduled for Apr. 24 at 1:30 p.m. Bond was set at $25,000. The defendant was currently lodged.
  • Randall Craig Witherspoon, 60 of Manistee, pleaded guilty to a charge of OWI. A charge of operating with a high blood alcohol content was dismissed. The defendant was sentenced to pay fines and costs of $1,050 and to serve 93 days at the discretion of the court within one year.
  • Johnnie Madison Brant Jr., 29, of Ludington, pleaded not guilty to a charge of receiving and concealing stolen property less than $200. Pretrial was scheduled for Apr. 19 at 1:30 p.m. The defendant is free on personal recognizance bond.
  • Derek Allen Williams, 35, of Chase, pleaded not guilty to a charge of malicious destruction of personal property less than $200. Pretrial was scheduled for Apr. 19 at 9 a.m. The defendant is free on personal recognizance bond.
  • Avin Lee Miles, Sr., 49, of Idlewild, pleaded not guilty to a charge of failing to stop after a personal injury accident. Pretrial was scheduled for Apr. 19 at 2 p.m. The defendant is free on $2,500 bond.
  • Damon Lewis Roggow, 35, of Luther, pleaded guilty to a charge of using emergency telephone services for an unlawful purpose. The defendant was sentenced to pay fines and costs of $280 and to serve 180 days at the discretion of the court within one year.
  • Michelle Lea Michels, 41, of Baldwin, pleaded not guilty to a charge of disorderly person/drunk. Pretrial was scheduled for Apr. 19 at 9 a.m. The defendant is free on $2,500 bond.
  • Beth Ann Depriest, 46, of Irons, was arraigned on a charge of being a fugitive from justice. An extradition hearing was scheduled for May 8 at 1:30 p.m. Bond was set at $20,000. The defendant was currently lodged.
  • Sheila Ranae Henson, 30, of Baldwin, pleaded guilty to a charge of third-degree child abuse. A second count of third-degree child abuse was dismissed. Sentencing was scheduled for May 14 at 1:30 p.m. The defendant is free on personal recognizance bond.
  • Ashley Nicole Lowry, 25, of Luther, pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamin/ecstacy). A charge of operating or maintaining a controlled substance (methamphetamine) lab was dismissed. Sentencing was scheduled for May 14 at 1:30 p.m. The defendant is free on bond.
