LAKE COUNTY — During a preliminary hearing on Tuesday, a man was bound to circuit court for a charge of assaulting a victim with the intent to do great bodily harm less than murder.

Roger Lee Hubbard, 36, of Big Rapids, was arrested for the assault on Sept. 12 in the Chase area. During the preliminary examination, he was bound over to circuit court. A pretrial will take place at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8.

Lake County Prosecutor Craig Cooper said medical evidence, which has yet to go before the court, will be key in the case, adding the victim sustained serious injuries.

Hubbard pleaded not guilty during the preliminary examination.

Assault with intent to do great bodily harm is a felony with no less than a 10-year prison sentence.

Hubbard also was charged with one count of habitual offender, fourth offense, which is punishable by life or a minimum of 25 years in prison.
