St. Ann’s Meals Center to benefit from tourney

BALDWIN — The Lake County Knights of Columbus are inviting everyone to become participants in the 2011 St. Ann’s Meals Center Open Golf Tournament. The golf tournament will take place at Marquette Trails Golf Course in Baldwin on July 29. This event is held annually to raise funds for the Senior Center’s meals program. The Center has experienced a decline in state and federal funding over the past few years and is facing more cuts in the future. To add to their financial plight, this years Blessing of the Bikes, which has contributed generously to their program in past years, was a dismal failure due to rain and cold weather.

Despite forced budget revisions, the staff at the center has managed to make adjustments in order to maintain most services for our senior citizens. The seniors receiving home delivered meals have had their meals changed from five hot meals a week to five frozen meals a week to help control costs. This is only one of the changes the staff has had to make to balance their budget. The center also continues to provide medical transportation to hospitals and doctor appointments for seniors who have no means of transportation. For information on all the programs available at the senior center, contact Shelly at (231) 745-7201.

Openings are still available for golfers to participate in the Jul7 29 event and hole sponsors and prize sponsors will always be welcomed. Please come and help us make this the best event ever. It will be a fun day for a really good cause. For more information, please contact Tony Granelli (K of C) at (231) -745-7971 or Chris Balulis (Marquette Trails) at (231) 898-2450.
