Search for bank robber continues

LUTHER - Lake County Sheriff’s Department deputies continue to investigate an armed robbery that rocked the Luther community and left Lake-Osceola State Bank employees shaken, but unharmed.

Law enforcement officials are hoping to generate a clearer photo of the perpetrator that will better assist in bringing the case to a successful conclusion.

The armed robbery took place last Friday at the Lake Osceola State Bank branch located in Luther’s business district.

Police say the robbery took place around 11 a.m. The suspect took control of the bank employees and customers and took a substantial amount of money. No one was injured during the robbery.

The suspect is described as a white male, 5-feet-9-inches tall and weighing 200 pounds. He was wearing dark shoes, blue jeans, a light brown hat, a brown hooded sweatshirt or jacket with black lining and latex gloves.

“We’re hoping to get a better identification of the suspect and we have a pretty good idea what the car he was driving looked like,” reported Lake County Sheriff Bob Hilts.

“Some of the initial photos we took off security cameras simply weren’t too clear. We have better photos now that we hope will be given wide distribution to the public.”

Hilts also noted his team had interviewed everyone in the bank and other potential witnesses as well.

“Our deputies continue developing this case, extending the investigation, and pursuing leads,” the sheriff said.

“We continue to gather information, and have officers in Luther working the case regularly.

“Much of what we are doing now involves trying to find the car our suspect was driving.”

The suspect is believed to have fled the scene heading south in a small, light blue or green, possibly four door, car.

Hilts encourages anyone with any information that may be helpful to this investigation to contact the Lake County Sheriff’s Office at (231) 745-2712.

Information will be treated with the strictest confidence.
