BALDWIN — With community outreach as a driving force for Baldwin Community Schools Board of Education President Shawn Washington, she was a proud recipient of this year's School-Community Health Alliance of Michigan Apple Award.

The purpose of the award is to recognize school-based health center partners in Michigan. Staff members of Baldwin Family Health Care Child and Adolescent Health Care Center at Baldwin Community Schools nominated Washington for the award.

"Shawn was nominated by our staff members for her involvement and support in the center and as a good representative of our community," said Child and Family Program Supervisor Carol Burba. "There are 125 school-based health centers throughout Michigan, so it was an honor she was singled out for the award."

Washington was pleased to be the recipient of the Apple Award.

"I was blown away to be chosen for the award," she said. "This is a great way to recognize community's enduring support for local health endeavors."

Washington was given a glass apple at the annual School-Community Health Alliance of Michigan conference in Lansing.
