BALDWIN — Students at Baldwin Community Schools were greeted by teachers and staff for the first day of the new school year on Monday — a day of excitement, nervousness and anticipation.

Students started out the day with a welcome back assembly.

“The students are excited and the new sixth-graders are excited, as well as the new staff members for the school year,” said Baldwin Junior and Senior High School Principal Calvin Patillo, adding the school has a new resource teacher, social studies teacher and band teacher. “It was a great first day. We welcomed the students with an assembly and encouraged them to focus on getting good grades and having a successful year.”

Elementary students were greeted by familiar faces and some new faces.

“The kids are excited to get in new classrooms with new teachers,” said Principal Joanie Wiersma, adding there are two new teachers and a new paraprofessional on board this year.
