Russell named Lake County Chamber of Commerce president

BALDWIN — For the past three months, the Lake County Chamber of Commerce has had a new face at the position of president.

Lee Ann Russell, owner of Fabric Peddler in Baldwin, was named the new chamber president earlier this month. Russell previously served as the chamber’s treasurer.

“Rick (Delamater, former Lake County Chamber of Commerce president,) decided that he needed to pay attention to business and felt that he had done a very good job while he was president and decided that it was time for somebody to take over,” Russell said.

Russell was nominated for the position and voted into office. The position holds a one-year term, although it is not uncommon for the president to serve for multiple years.

As a business owner and member of community organizations, Russell believes she is a good fit for the position because she can help delegate responsibilities and facilitate communication.

“We’ve got so many organizations within our community, so many people doing so many jobs; we need to know what everybody is doing,” Russell said. “It’s not that we want to do it for them, but we want to have communication so that everybody learns (what is going on).”

With business, organizations and the chamber supporting each other, Russell believes all the parties involved will be more successful. The chamber is currently working on updating its website because Russell wants visitors to have access to easy and accurate information about businesses and events in the community.

“Promotion is what a chamber is all about,” Russell said. “We try to make sure that anyone that doesn’t know what we stand for gets the message.”

In addition to communicating more, working on promotion and the chamber’s website, Russell has been inviting guest speakers to chamber meetings under her tenure as president.

For more information on the chamber, visit or call Russell at (231) 745-4500. Russell also encourages individuals to contact her if information on the chamber’s website is inaccurate or for inquires on how to become a guest speaker at a chamber meeting.
