LAKE COUNTY — Lake County Road Commission Manager Steve Leonard handed in his resignation on Tuesday, Oct. 22, to accept a position with the Montcalm County Road Commission.

"We don't know what happened, no one knew he was planning to leave," Lake County Board of Commissioners Chairman Howard Ludholtz said. "We didn't know about it until he turned in his resignation. We're going to miss him. He was a good manager."

Leroy Williams has been appointed as manager/superintendent of the road commission.

"I didn't know it was coming," Williams said. "I've known Steve a long time, and it was hard to hear."

Williams said he is ready to do the job and they will continue to move ahead with the same plan.

"It'll take some time, because Steve has been here a long time, but I know I can do the job," he said.

Lake County Road Commission board member Richard Runnels said Leonard "has done a great job" and they are sorry to lose him.

"We will miss Steve, he was a good guy," Runnels said. "Leroy has more than 20 years experience with the road commission and he will do a really good job."

Leonard could not be reached for comment prior to press time.
