Reed City Hospital to award scholarships

REED CITY — Spectrum Health Reed City Hospital will be awarding two $1,000 scholarships to students graduating high school at the end of the current school year.

To qualify for the scholarship, students must be planning to pursue a career in health sciences, have a minimum 2.5 grade point average, and submit an application containing information about their goals and aspirations along with information about any extra-circular activities, community service and their work history.

"To qualify for the scholarship, students have to be planning on going into some sort of healthcare field," said Sarah Neubecker of Spectrum Health Reed City. "This could include nursing, pre-med studies, nuclear medicine, becoming a physician; pretty much anything where they would be in a clinical position and helping patients."

For students about to enter college, every little bit can assistance can help when preparing to face the economic challenges of paying for four or more years of higher education.

"This is a great opportunity for students to get part of their college paid for," remarked Neubecker. "We're always looking for more opportunities to help students with that and we love to see students go into healthcare fields. We hope this encourages them."

The scholarship has been offered for the last five years, and is open to high school students from Baldwin High School, Evart High School, The Mecosta Osceola Career Center, Pine River High School and Reed City High School.

"We offer this scholarship as a way to invest in future healthcare workers in this area," explained Neubecker. "We know they might not return to this are or join Spectrum Health, but we want to help them with the challenges of college and their futures."

The scholarship will be awarded at the end of the student's first semester of college, provided they maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA.
