BALDWIN — A Walkerville man will appear in court next month on charges stemming from a deadly May accident. A pretrial has been set for Ralph Dwyer, 44, of Walkerville, at 1:30 p.m. on July 19. Dwyer faces criminal charges for a car crash resulting in the death of passenger, Cody Horton, and a severe injury to another passenger, Terri Williams, on May 30 in Irons. He lost control of the vehicle carrying the three occupants on the curve of Brooks Road and Nine Mile Road and struck a tree. Dwyer was intoxicated at the time of the crash.

Dwyer was bound over to circuit court on Tuesday, June 19.

He was charged with one count of operating under the influence of alcohol causing death, a felony punishable by up to 15 years in prison; one count of operating with a suspended license causing death, a felony for which he could face up to 15 years in prison; and one count of operating under the influence of alcohol causing injury, a felony punishable up to five years in prison.

Due to his status as a habitual offender, Dwyer could face up to life in prison if the primary offense has a penalty of five years or more, or he could face 15 years in prison if the primary offense has a penalty of less than five years.
