BALDWIN — Pregnant women and young families in Lake County will soon have more resources available with the opening of the first pregnancy center in the county.

The center, a satellite of West Shore Pregnancy and Family Support Center in Ludington, will be located on the north entrance of Pompeii’s in Baldwin. An open house is scheduled from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 12.

“We will provide general material assistance for pregnant women,” said executive director Heather Bush. “This includes items such as diapers, clothing, food and other items. Once a month we plan to have parenting classes with topics such as prenatal care, disciplining toddlers, meeting a budget and maintaining healthy relationships. There are a huge range of classes we offer.

“We also have programs in the schools about healthy relationships, risk avoidance, social media awareness and other topics to reach young people.

“Everything we do as a center falls under the idea to reach out to our communities, to find affordable ways to come alongside struggling families and relieve financial burdens and help them make the changes they want.”

Jen Heiney, owner of Pompeii’s, will operate the center in Baldwin, which will be open each Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and expand as needed.

“I am excited about this new center and helping women. I feel that’s what the Lord wants. I want to empower people in our community,” she said.
