Pastor’s Pen: Where are you looking?
We have so many trials today. There is chaos and confusion to deal with in our daily lives. Some are self-induced. Some are distracting us from important decisions in life. Most of the problems are temporary. We let them take our attention and neglect the eternal. The priority should be: what are we doing to increase our walk with God? What help do we find in the word of God to guide us?
“Verily, verily I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.”(John 6:47)
What can we count on in our lives today? Only the Lord Jesus Christ will keep his promises without fail. The Apostle John tells us, “And this is the promise that He hath promised us, even eternal life.”(1 John 2:25)
I can be poor in this world’s goods but rich in eternal treasures. I can claim the promises of the Lord Jesus Christ. What does eternal life mean? It’s very simple. Eternal means eternal. Put your faith in the risen Savior Jesus Christ. He was the one who died on the cross. He shed his blood to pay for our sin. We have a risen Savior! Praise God!
Is your focus on the eternal or the temporary? The message from God is clear. “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the son of God.”(1 John 5:13)
There is a real problem. It is our sin. The Bible says, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”(Rom. 6:23) There is a certainty of the fires of hell for us without Christ. Don’t let the weight of sin drag us to hell. There is a gift waiting for all who will come to God through Christ. He purchased our salvation with his shed blood. There is nothing we can do to buy our own freedom from the penalty of sin.
We can’t work for salvation. We can only accept the free gift Jesus has for us. Don’t be distracted by the arguments of the devil and his crowd.
There is a record for us to see. “And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.”( 1 John 5:11) Don’t allow Satan to blind you with the cares of this world. Listen to the invitation of a loving and kind Savior. Whosoever will may come. Come to Christ while you may. Put your faith in Christ and settle your eternity today.
