PASTOR'S PEN: Rescue me from sin

By Pastor David Stiles

When Jesus hung dying on the cross, he made the statement, "It is finished." The proof that his sacrifice was accepted is his resurrection from the dead.

Why is this so important? Because we are all sinners, we need a savior. Do you have a savior? Have you made him your personal savior? Have you been redeemed from your sin? You don't want to die in your sins. Let Christ into your heart and life today. Christ came from eternity past to take upon himself flesh to be our sacrifice for our sin. Jesus came to seek and to save that which was lost.

The Bible says, "And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus; for he shall save his people from their sins,"(Matt. 1:21).  We need to be redeemed from our sin problem. Only Christ can redeem us. He is our sinless savior.

The apostle John said, "And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin," (1 John 3:5). The apostle Paul faced the reality of sin in his life: "This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief," (1Tim.1:15).

It is the shed blood of Christ which is the means to rescue. "In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace," (Eph. 1:7). This is the provision of almighty God. The choice remains with us. The apostle Peter said, "Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins,"(Acts 13:38).

Will you trust Christ as savior today? Let him rescue you from sin. Remember the Bible says, "The wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord," (Rom 6:23). What a gift! This is a free gift. We do nothing for this gift. We can't work for it with good works. No ceremony or ritual will bring life eternal. No baptism will pay our debt of sin. Only the shed blood of Christ will atone for our sins. It is free for us. But remember it cost Christ his life.

You can choose to collect your wages, which is death or accept the free gift of eternal life with Christ. God is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. Christ loves you. He has proved it. "Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will to God and our Father," (Gal 1:4). Especially during this time of year, think of what Christ has done for you. He gives us hope in this present world. Don't wait, don't hesitate. Make Christ your savior today. Put your faith in the person of Christ, the only risen savior. Paul said, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved,"(Acts 16:31).

Don't delay!
