PASTOR'S PEN: Celebrations behind and ahead.

By Pastor David Stiles

Mother's Day is a glorious day to celebrate. After all is said and done, we all have one. A mother that is.

The Bible says, "For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh." (Eph. 5:31) God in all his wisdom established the home as the basic unit of our planet. The facts are that strong families make strong churches, communities, states and nations. So, let us entertain the thoughts that are encouraging the building of new units for God's glory. There is a lot at stake for the future success of our way of life.

Mother's Day: what a thought! We have some good memories of our mothers. Keep them. We honor them and hold them up in our imaginations. Yes, we know that none are perfect. We love them in spite of their shortcomings.

Then we jump right into the wedding season. The month of June is a historically popular time to make a lifetime commitment to the one you love. You had better do your homework before the wedding. The biblical directions are simple really: listen to the directions, "Nevertheless, let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself, and the wife see that she reverence her husband." (Eph. 5:33) This is not a game or some twisted competition to win.

We celebrate the formation of homes for the glory of God. It is the season for homes and weddings. God's will is for a man to love his wife, and that wife to reverence her husband. If men and women would seek God's will in their homes, so many problems would disappear. If men and women would learn to communicate, peace would descend. If a married man and woman would learn to manage their finances, fewer divorces would take place. If there were more spiritual goals set and achieved, more lovers would find contentment in their marriages. Try something new, be faithful to each other. If couples seek understanding and wisdom instead of the godless Hollywood foolishness, we would have fewer single parent homes in our nation. If men would stop being so selfish and women end the their preoccupation with themselves, homes would be strengthened once again. Children would be raised with character and discipline. Their future would be enhanced for the betterment of our society and nation.

God has given us a model, follow it. The Bible gives the directions, listen to them. He tells us how to prepare for eternity through Christ, why not believe his will for the home too? I remember mom. The home I was born into is being assaulted and denigrated today. It was indeed a blessing to have mom and dad to wrestle with the kids while trying to raise them up right. Now weak and misguided people are trying to hoodwink society to a stylish redefinition of marriage and home.

There is no future following this godless dead end. I see our future to honor mom and marriage in God's way. It is the only thing that makes any sense. It may not be popular among those that are spiritually blind, but then, we must stick to God's plan. Win the lost.

God's plan of salvation works. God's plan for the home works. Oh, the Devil and his crowd fight against God's way, but that isn't new. If more people would respond to the gospel of Christ, many things would become understandable.

Don't quit on God. Salvation is needed for all sinners. Put your faith in the risen Savior, Jesus Christ. His blood was shed so we could enjoy eternity with Him for ever and ever.

Would you trust him today? God's plan will work if you follow God's plan. Think about it. Sin will be forgiven by the grace of God when you confess that you are a sinner and put your faith in Christ. Don't delay, there are no guarantees for the length of time left. Behold today is the day of salvation. Make your mom happy, trust Christ today!
