LAKE COUNTY — With the busy summer season beginning Memorial Day weekend, visitors and area residents in Lake County will have opportunities to attend observances to remember the sacrifice of service men and women.

The events kick off at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 26, with the annual Memorial Day Parade in Luther. Hosted by the Luther Lions Club, the parade begins at the Luther Lions Hall, 1003 State Street, Luther. A ceremony will take place at the flag pole and the parade will commence through downtown Luther. The Pine River High School band will perform patriotic selections.

Residents will have an opportunity to step into the past during a Mass conducted by the Michigan 2nd Cavalry Civil War Reenactors at 8 a.m. on Sunday, May 27, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Irons, 5734 W 10 1/2 Mile Road. The reenactors will have a special service in memory of all those who served and died for freedom. The service will include the presentation of the American flag and patriotic music including taps. Reenactors will serve as greeters, ushers, gift bearers, readers, Eucharistic ministers and musicians.

An honor guard ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 27, at V.F.W. Post No. 5315, located at 2225 S. M-37, Baldwin. There will be gun salute from the rifle squad and the playing of taps. Lunch will follow the ceremony. All veterans and area residents are invited to attend.
