EDEN TWP. — A man is charged with felonious assault after he intentionally struck a man with an off-road vehicle on Friday.

Lake County deputies were dispatched to the area of North Syers Drive and 5 1/2 Mile Road in Eden Township at 7:20 p.m. and arrived to find a 31-year-old man from Rockford who had been intentionally struck by a UTV side-by-side driven by a 59-year-old man from Warren.

“The incident stemmed from a confrontation between the two men when the elder man was found trespassing with his UTV on property owned by the Rockford man.

“The younger man confronted the man from Warren, who allegedly pulled out a handgun threatening the property owner. The landowner disarmed the 59-year-old suspect, who then returned to his vehicle and proceeded to leave the scene,” according to a press release from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

When leaving the property, the 59-year-old man allegedly intentionally struck the 31-year-old with the UTV. The landowner was transported to Spectrum Health Reed City Hospital and treated for injuries caused by being struck by the vehicle.

The 59-year-old suspect was arrested by Lake County Sheriff’s Office deputies and was lodged at the Lake County Jail, being charged with felonious assault, felon in possession of a firearm, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, felony firearm and carrying a concealed weapon.

The suspect has not been arraigned and is currently free on a $35,000 bond (10 percent).

Arraignment is set for Nov. 6 in the Lake County Trial Court. The name of the suspect and victim are being withheld pending the suspect’s arraignment, Sheriff Rich Martin said.
