PARIS — Area residents interested in learning more about operations and the mission of the Michigan State Police (MSP) are invited to attend the Citizens’ Academy this fall.

The Citizens' Academy is an eight-week program to inform participants about the procedures troopers follow, increase awareness of law enforcement's role in communities and get to know personnel at the local post.

Instruction will include an introduction to MSP, patrol and dispatch procedures, first aid, use of force, personal safety, home safety, traffic safety, legal system, criminal investigation and drug awareness.

The academy will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. every Monday beginning Monday, Oct. 1, and will conclude on Monday, Nov. 19, at the conference room in the Meceola Dispatch Center, 20701 Northland Drive, Paris.

Community residents, business owners, educators, news media, government officials, advocacy professionals, faith leaders, college students, non-profit leaders, senior citizens and other interested parties are encouraged to attend.

For an application, contact Trooper Brian Lucha at (989) 948-0680. Sign-ups must be completed by Sept. 28.
