Our deepest sympathy is extended to the family of June Syrewicze, who passed away last week. She will be sorely missed by all of her family and friends. May she rest in peace. The Luther Lions Club will be hosting a craft show from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013. Rental for tables is $15 for a six-foot table, or $20 for an eight-foot table. To reserve your table or for further information, feel free to call June Rayle at 797-5190. Food will be available. Once more, I remind you that the 23rd annual Red Cross Blood Drive will take place from noon to 5:45 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 26 at the Luther Lions Building on State Road. You must be at least 17 years old, and weigh at least 110 pounds to donate blood. Remember to bring a picture ID and/or your donor card with you. The Blood Drive is sponsored by the Luther Lioness Club. If you have any questions, or would like to make an appointment, feel free to call me at 797-5541. Okay, I am writing this column on Monday because I have a doctor’s appointment Tuesday morning, and since I have given you the important news, I will share a couple of good stories with you. A couple had been married 45 years and had raised a brood of 11 children, and was blessed with 22 grandchildren. When asked the secret for staying together all that time, the wife replies, “Many years ago we made a promise to each other: the first one to pack up and leave has to take all the kids.” A policeman pulled a young woman driver over and told her she was going 15 miles over the speed limit. “Yes, I know,” she hurriedly explained, “But I’m very low on gas and I’m trying to reach the next station before I run out!” Thought for the week: If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. (An old adage, but true).
