Luther Library has busy month

LUTHER - It’s been busy the last few weeks at the Luther Library.

A lot of folks had a lot of fun, and these happenings are just a few examples of the opportunities to fellowship at the library.

On Saturday, April 23, 22 children and seven adults enjoyed a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party at the library. The tea party began at 2 p.m. and was followed by the showing of Tim Burton’s “Alice In Wonderland,” at 3 p.m.

Everyone enjoyed sandwiches and lots of desserts with their “tea” (lemonade). Some came dressed in their favorite “Alice in Wonderland” character costume.

The library has recently acquired a movie license and plans are being made to show a movie at least once a month. The next movie event will be on Saturday, May 14 at 6 p.m., “Ladies Movie Night.”

There will be a potluck at 6 p.m..

Everyone bring your favorite recipe to share.

The movie “Julie & Julia” starring Meryl Streep as Julia Child will be shown at 7 p.m.

Everyone is welcome.

On April 30, the Luther Fire Hall, along with the Luther Area Public Library hosted a Fire Safety Awareness Program.

The program began with a parade of fire trucks through town. The fire trucks were on display at the library and the firemen, dressed in their gear, were there to show children and adults fire safety.

The children were hands on (with the help of a fireman) with a hose and got to spray at windows of a plywood house. The firemen served hotdogs and chips along with a drink.

Fire safety awareness packages provided by the library and fire hall were handed out to children.

As a special treat Smokey the Bear was present to talk with children about preventing fires.

Over 150 adults and children attended the program.
