Lake County Community Foundation awards grants

By Sandy Clarke Lake County Community Foundation President

BALDWIN — On Wednesday afternoon, June 4, 31 organizations that service Lake County residents received a boost in their funding after being awarded a grant from the Lake County Community Foundation.

The foundation held its annual grant program on a warm Wednesday afternoon in the Baldwin High School cafeteria. Representatives of each organization came forward to accept their grant award. This year the foundation awarded $137,707.

Each year, the LCCF accepts grant applications to support community arts and culture, education, environmental and health and human service projects. The LCCF received 48 requests.

The foundation has a base fund balance of $4.3 million. It uses the interest it collects from that amount to award the grants.

This grant year the LCCF received a generous bequest from a thoughtful and very caring person, Richard (Rick) Simonson. The Lake County Community Foundation received $800,000 from this caring man, who was raised in Baldwin, attended Baldwin High School, attended Albion College, Albion, where he earned two degrees, and began his professional life. Rick never forgot Baldwin and his roots here. His bequest allows for more grants to be awarded, more scholarships given out and more citizens of Lake County to be helped.

The Lake County Community Foundation is thankful for Rick and all of our donors who are Partners in our evolving story. They are Partners who invest in our community’s culture, art, education, health and human services. Their contributions honor loved ones as well as support worthwhile community projects for years to come.
