I am writing this column on Tuesday morning, July 26, the day that Jodie and Scott Lucas were married 25 years ago. Congratulations to Jodie and Scott on 25 years of wedded bliss. May you have many more!

Where has the summer gone? When I started writing this column this morning, and realized that the menu I was writing was for August, I realized that we are almost to that time of year to get out the boots and snow shovels! I am not even going to think of that!

The summer reading program, “One World, Many Stories” began on Thursday, July 21. The children learned about Japan’s landscape and customs. They made a carp wind sock, learned origami and got to use chopsticks to eat a snack. Four more sessions are scheduled each Thursday beginning at 2 pm. Stop by the Library to learn about England, Africa, Mexico and the USA.

“Movie Night” for the month of August will be held on Saturday the 13th. We will begin the program at 4 p.m. with a Family Luau and lawn game cookout in the back yard of the library. We will be serving pork sandwiches and all the fixings. After the luau we will be showing the new movie just out, “Soul Surfer.” Come by to join the fun while enjoying the new garden and flowers planted by the preschool “Story Hour” children.

We continue to have Monday “Story Hour” at 11 a.m. Children ages 1 to 6 (accompanied by an adult) are welcome to come enjoy a story, craft and snack. The preschoolers planted a vegetable garden in the spring with plants they had started by seed. They have weeded, watered and watched their plants grow and have already enjoyed eating fresh vegetables from the garden.

The Library currently has 15 computers for public use. We will be implementing Ancestry.com for all of the geneology buffs. If you are interested in using this program call or come by the library.

The garden committee has almost completed the outdoor learning garden. A grant received from the Lake County Community Foundation enabled the garden committee to expand their previous garden and also construct a raised vegetable garden for the preschoolers to use. Come by to see the lovely flowers, shrubs, benches and vegetables!

The Luther Area Museum presents Glass Etching on Saturday, July 30th at 2 p.m. Demonstrator will be Pat Pacola. Bring an exacto knife if you have one and join Pat for a fun-filled afternoon.

Everyone is invited and welcome.

The Methodist Church is sponsoring a sing along on Sunday afternoon, July 31, at the Purchase Pavilion in Luther.Everyone is invited and welcome. The time is from 1 to 3 p.m. There will be ice cream! Bring your lawn chair or a blanket and join in the fun! The coordinator for this activity is Dan LaRose. If you have questions, feel free to call Dan at (231) 797-5558.

This will be the first announcement you will receive regarding the annual Luther Lioness Blood Drive which will take place on August 23 from noon until 6 p.m.at the Luther Lions Building.

This will mark the twenty first consecutive year that the Lioness Club has sponsored blood drives. If you have given blood in the past, you will be called to schedule for this year.If you have never given, now is a good time to start. If you have any questions you can call me at (231) 797-5541.

Thought for the week: We always have time for the things we put first.

Have a great week.
