LUTHER NEWS: Plenty going on in Luther

WOW! That was a fast two weeks. Let's see, where do I begin? First off, I would like to congratulate Brittany Carlson and Jeff Beegle for raising the most money in their polar plunge jugs, saving themselves from having to take the freezing dip. Unfortunately, Chad Terpstra and I were the losers. Brittany, however, decided she didn't want me to do it alone and took the plunge with me. Thanks Brittany; what a trooper! The Luther Days Association was the big winner here. All the money raised will help make Luther Days 2016 one of the best ones yet. The association will be hosting it's monthly meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 7 at the Ellsworth Township Hall. They will be finalizing 2016 events soon and of course looking for volunteers to organize and run events. Now is the time to stop in and share your ideas with them!
The Luther United Methodist Church needs a new steeple! The Methodist Church was founded in 1883 and is the oldest structure still standing in Luther. The steeple on the church is the most prominent site when people come to Luther from any direction. While putting on a new roof, it was discovered the steeple is leaning and will need to be replaced. The boards in the steeple are rotten beyond repair and the whole structure must be torn down to the ground and rebuilt. The church is working on fundraising programs and is open to all ideas to raise the $44,000 it will take to rebuild this historic focal point of the community. They are also looking for any original photos of early days Luther with the Methodist church in the photo. Any help from the public would be greatly appreciated. Please contact Dan LaRose at (231) 797-5558 for more information.
If you haven't heard, the Luther Library is hosting a new program called 4-H Tech Wizards: Science Nights. This will held from 4 to 6 p.m. every Wednesday at the Library. Come and explore the exciting world of hands-on science. The February program will be "Lego Robotics." Come on now, who doesn't love Legos?
Edgett's Wesleyan Church is opening it's fellowship hall to their neighbors and community. The Edgett's Neighborhood Cafe will be open the first Saturday of each month. Bring a friend, sit a spell and enjoy a meal and conversation. Bring a mug and we will brew the beans and make breakfast. Coffee is served at 8:30 a.m. with breakfast to be served beginning at 9 a.m. A donation of money or canned goods for the food pantry is appreciated. The church will also be having an open gym every Friday evening school is in session from 4:30 to 7 p.m. With school approval, children can be dropped off by the school bus. The kids can play basketball, indoor hockey and also go in the gaga pit that is very popular. Thank you to E.J. and Stacy Bergman for heading up this fun time. For more information call E.J. at (231) 912-7074, Stacy at (231) 670-1854 or Barb Fitzgerald at (231) 797-5240. Well, I am off to Boston to go Wahlburgers. Yes, me and my friends are driving there to hopefully see Donnie Wahlberg and eat at his burger joint! I know it seems crazy, but hey I have done crazier things, so why not?
Thought for the week: whenever you have pains in your life, just think about the full form of PAINS (Positive Attitude In Negative Situations)!
Think spring and "SEE" you in two weeks!
