LUTHER NEWS: Looking forward to spring

The weather is all everyone has been talking about this week, and I hope you all survived the big storm. We were very fortunate that our power stayed on throughout the whole time. It was amazing that our cable didn’t even go out. This week temperatures were in the 40s, which meant floods for some people. Sure will be glad when spring arrives.

Best Poem in the World

I was shocked, confused, bewildered as I entered Heavens door. Not by the beauty of it all, nor the lights or its decor.

But it was the folks in Heaven who made me sputter and gasp—the thieves, the liars, the sinners, the alcoholics and the trash.

There stood the kid from seventh grade who swiped my lunch money twice. Next to him was my old neighbor who never said anything nice.

Bob, who I always thought was rotting away in hell, was sitting pretty on cloud nine, looking incredibly well.

I nudged Jesus, “What’s the deal? I would love to hear your take. How’d all these sinners get up here? God must’ve made a mistake.

“And why is everyone so quiet? So somber – give me a clue” “Hush, child,” He said, “They’re all in shock. No one thought they’d be seeing you.”

WOW! Is that something to think about?

I remind you that the Luther Senior Center is open daily from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. to serve meals to seniors. The menu for the center is found at the beginning of the Luther News. The suggested cost for meals for seniors (over 60 years of age) is $2 and this is a donation. Those under 60 years old are invited and welcome but the cost is a bit more (I think its $4.95, but don’t quote me) Check with Audrey, who is the site manager to be sure.

Seniors play bingo every Wednesday, and you could win a box of cereal, some laundry detergent or any number of other household goods. The senior center has a game room, where you might find a puzzle in progress, and if you are lucky you could find a table of card players, just waiting for a fourth for euchre or pinochole.

The game room also has a stationary bike, two treadmills (one motorized and one manual) and a recliner where you could take a nap after your workout.

Thought for the week: Blessed are they who travel in circles, for they shall be known as wheels.

Have a good day, and think spring!
