LUTHER NEWS: Annual Fireworks Fundraiser set for April 14

I found some good information and funny stories, and I am going to borrow a couple today because I cleaned off my desk (sort of), and now I can’t find any of my own good information. By next week things should be back to normal (or not)!

Homemade House Cleaner Recipes by Heloise

Drain freshener: Mix 1 cup baking soda with 1 cup salt. Pour 1/4 of mixture into the drain, followed by 1 cup household vinegar. Wait at least 30 seconds, then add 1 cup hot water. Wait 20 seconds, then rinse drain with cold water for about a minute or longer. Store remaining mixture in a clean covered and labeled jar.

Bathtub or sink rust-stain remover. Mix a paste of borax power and lemon juice. Rub vigorously over the rust stain. Let set a while, then rinse. Repeat if necessary.

Last ditch stain remover for clothes (white and bleachable only; not for silk or rayon and the like): Combine 1 gallon hot water, 1 cup powered dishwasher detergent, 1/4 cup regular (not concentrate or “ultra”) household liquid chlorine bleach. Mix well in a plastic, enamel, or stainless-steel container (avoid aluminum; the mixture will discolor it). Then let the garment soak for about 5 to 10 minutes; check to see if any of the stain remains; if so soak a little longer, then launder as usual.

Enough work related information. Next week I will give you a bit more.

I hope you marked your calendar for April 14, which is the annual Fireworks Fundraiser Auction. The doors open at 6 p.m. with the auction starting at 7 p.m. The event goes until midnight. The cost is a $10 donation at the door. Bring a dish to pass and BYOB. Music will be provided by the Guitar College and all proceeds support the Fireworks display at Luther Logging Days in July. Auction items are needed and can be dropped off at the library or the Gift Shoppe.

Last week we were looking for a lawn mower repair person, and I asked you to contact me if you know someone who does lawn mower repair. Since last week I did get the name of someone who does repair. His name is Bill Valko, and his phone number is (231) 78-7073. He also does small engine repair.

Thought for the week: A father is usually more pleased to have his child look like him than act like him.

Have a good week.
