Knights of Columbus present check

LAKE COUNTY — The local chapter of the Knights of Columbus has made a generous donation to Baldwin’s Good Time Bowlers, an organization which has for many years had a policy of supporting special needs members of the community. The check for just over $740 was presented at a ceremony last week during which bowlers interrupted their games to express particular thanks to the Knights for their continued generosity and community spirit.

Knights representative Jim Dingman, who officially turned over the check, notes that the group works year-round at its fundraising activities, engaging in charitable drives such as the popular Tootsie-roll sale, dinners, and festivals. All moneys are duly reported to the Michigan State Council for the Knights of Columbus and by charter have to go to specific groups. This year, the Baldwin chapter considered several worthy causes and decided to give $500 to the Regional Special Olympics and $500 to the Pine River School as well as the bowlers.

Anyone could see at last week’s presentation that the beneficiaries of the Knights’ generosity were delighted with the gift. Activities like bowling are excellent for individuals, for example, who have Downs Syndrome, giving them a great opportunity to exercise and improve their coordination skills as well as affording them a chance to have fun and meet new friends.
