IRONS — Several hunters showcased their bucks they shot on opening day of deer rifle season during the annual Irons Buck Pole last Thursday at Skinner Park.

The annual event is hosted by the Irons Area Tourist Association, and it is a time for the community to come together to celebrate opening day with a bonfire, food, competition and fun. Prizes are awarded in a youth and adult category for the biggest buck.

As part of the fun, local businesses decorated Skinner Hall with hunting themes, such as Lonnie Collins' bow display collection.

"Overall, we had a good turnout," said Christina Hinken, who helped with the event. "A lot of folks came to the event. Some feedback from hunters was that they just weren’t seeing a lot of bucks on opening day, but they did enjoy pulled pork sandwiches, meatball subs and pizza from our kitchen."
