Hospice announces volunteer training

LUDINGTON — Hospice of Michigan will be conducting volunteer training for those interested in volunteering in any of the service area of Lake, Benzie, Manistee, Mason and Oceana counties. Volunteers are needed for patient care – companionship, respite and visiting both in the home setting and adult care facilities, for new programs being initiated, as well as current programs in fundraising, education, clerical, maintenance, housekeeping and others.

No minimum number of hours are required weekly, and hours are scheduled at the convenience of volunteers and/or families and according to the many events. Volunteers can choose which areas to volunteer and are not required to work with patients, unless they so choose. Many opportunities are available.

Volunteer training will be held at WSCC from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 23 and Wednesday, Jan. 25. Both days are required for the training. Persons interested are urged to contact the Hospice of Michigan office at (231) 845-3422 – Jean Taylor or by emailing jtaylor@hom.org. There is no cost for the training, but pre-registration is required. Information and an application can be obtained by visiting hom.org.

Hospice of Michigan’s Ludington office serves Benzie, Lake, Manistee, Mason and Oceana counties and volunteers are needed in all of the local service area.
