PINORA TWP. — A new, shiny steel roof now frames the old, weathered Stowe School in Pinora Township. The new roofing and other repairs are now completed thanks to a $2,000 grant from the Lake County Community Foundation.

When Pinora Township was given the property last year, board members were interested in seeing the historic building preserved, but wanted to be frugal with tax-payers’ dollars. Trustee Sid Woods got busy applying for grants so the building could be saved.

“We wanted to save the structure which dates back to 1881,” said Pinora Township Supervisor Victoria Dennett. “If the historical society ever wants to do anything with the building, they now can.”

Dennett said the first phase of preserving the building is complete, but if anyone is interested in helping with further repairs and renovations, they can contact Woods at (231) 832-2957.
