FARWELL – A Central Michigan-based basketball training program will add a new coach to its coaching staff this summer.

HOOPZONE Basketball has announced Mid-Michigan Community College (MMCC) Laker men’s basketball coach, Kaleb House, will be coaching at the 2014 PUREHOOP Shooting camp.

Among other causes, HOOPZONE provides camps and events for students ranging from 4 years old to high school age. It’s programs aim to support and enhance local, rural school basketball programs by helping players learn and develop in atmospheres similar to those available to athletes in larger cities.

House played basketball at Kirtland Community College for two years, acting as team captain for the Firebirds’ 2003/04 season. After his time at Kirtland, House spent two years playing for Aquinas College, receiving NAIA Academic All-American status his senior year.

Prior to coming to MMCC in 2012, House coached the varsity basketball team at Beal City, finishing with a record of 57-28 in his four seasons at the helm. Last year, the Lakers, in only their second year in the NJCAA, qualified for the postseason. Under House’s direction, they were Region XII champions and qualified for district play. They defeated Madison College before losing a close game to third-seed Harper College 76-82.

“We are excited about Coach House coming and our four summer camps for grades K-12,” said Bruce Owens, HOOPZONE Basketball founder and coach. “We’ve grown tremendously over the past six years with over 1,800-plus kids attending from all over Mid-Michigan, and this summer will sure be another great season.”

Upcoming camps include:

  •  June 16 to 19 – K-2 Little Shot Fundamental Camp, $40;
  •  July 21 to 24 – HOOP STARS Camp with mini games for grades third through fifth, $45;
  •  Aug. 4 and 5 – PUREHOOP Shooting Camp for grades sixth through 12, $40; and
