BALDWIN – Smiles could be seen on the faces of the residents at Grand Oaks Nursing Center in Baldwin on Aug. 26, as they enjoyed ice cream with all the fixings in the company of family and friends.

Susan McDonnell hosted the ice cream social for her mother, Alice Truxton, and the other residents at the center, with Jones’ Ice Cream. Four generations of McConnell’s family attended the ice cream social.

“I wanted to do something to lift everyone’s spirits,” McConnell explained. “After being on lockdown for 14 months, it should be a pleasant treat for them.”

Activity Director Christine Engel was happy to see the residents enjoying the treat.

“This has been a tough last year,” Engels said. “When Sue mentioned having an ice cream social, I knew this was something to bring us all together.”

Precautions were still in place, such as visitors wearing masks and having their temperature taken.
