BALDWIN — The Grand Oaks Nursing Center will have a canned food drive throughout February in recognition of canned food drive month.

Grand Oaks Activity Director, Christine Engels said she hopes the can drive this year will be as successful as last year.

"We already started collecting items," Engels said. "We wanted to start the drive in January and go until the end of February in hopes of getting even more donations. We distribute the donations at the end of February to the Bread of Life food pantry in Baldwin and the Edgetts food pantry in Luther."

Engels said people can drop off canned food, boxed food and other nonperishable items as well as personal care items such as toothbrushes, lotion and hand sanitizer to Grand Oaks.

"Last year we had such a good response from the community. Two churches also got involved. We had a whole wall stacked with boxes of donations. It is so important for the community to work together to help each other out. It was such a thrill to see how people came together to give to those in need. To see the looks on the faces of volunteers at the pantry when we distributed donations was amazing. A lot of people need the help. These are tough times and to have these pantries in our county is a blessing," Engels said.
