Getting ready for the Idlewild Music Festival

Idlewild prepares for the Eighth Annual Idlewild Music Festival

IDLEWILD — Lake County residents and visitors to the area will have a chance to live their music experience in a big way the weekend of July 7-9 as the Idlewild community hosts the Eighth Annual Idlewild Music Fest.

The annual Music Fest is set to kick off over an ‘adjusted’ weekend - Thursday through Saturday - and there’s a lot on the docket.

It’s big. It’s better than ever.

Williams Island will once again be alive with music on the shore of beautiful Lake Idlewild just down the road from Baldwin in Lake County.

Last year, thousands settled on the beautiful Idlewild Lake shoreline throughout the event as music from the annual Idlewild Music Fest filled the air - visitors and locals alike

In its glory days the Idlewild resort was a top venue for black entertainers and earned the national reputation for quality acts.

The “glory days” are here once again.

The Music Fest hosts some of the best performers in a variety of music stylings.

The event opens with a free gospel extravaganza at 5 until 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, with live performances to uplift and set the tone for coming days.

The Thursday performances promise to be both entertaining and inspirational.

Friday night things really get going at 5 p.m. with Priscilla Price, the Noteworthy Soul Band, the Reality Band, and Kevin Collins. The performances will last until 11:30 p.m.

On Saturday, vendors will open at noon and music will begin at 2 p.m. with the Freddie Cunningham and the Root Doctor Band, Lady Sunshine and the XBand, Serieux, and Maurice Davis.

There will be fireworks following the Saturday evening performances.

This is an outdoor venue in a park setting with serene Idlewild Lake in the background. The locale is home to a small but energetic Yates Township community.

Bring your lawn chair. Boaters are welcome to enjoy the music from their craft but organizers ask that you do support the festival by purchasing tickets. No pets are allowed throughout the performance area.

Advance tickets are available to be purchased at the Road Runners Variety Store on Foreman Road in Idlewild or call (231) 745-7724

If you do not have an advance ticket, there is a gate admission. Children under 12 years old are free.
