Garden Club completes third service project for the month

The Garden Club of Lake County completed their third community service project last month. Working with fifteen residents at Grand Oaks Nursing Center, they revitalized the patio area. Both ambulatory and wheelchair residents had an opportunity to plant flowers. They planted many tomato plants which, when ready, will make great tomato sandwiches for lunch. Flowers and plants were donated by Fred Rosado of Circle R farm.

Every year, the garden club plants and maintains the gardens at the Hollister Senior Center. THis year the club also did the landscaping at the District #10 Health Department.

The garden club meets the second Thursday of each month at Hollister Senior Center. At each meeting, four or five members bring dinner to share. There usually is a guest speaker. This year, the owner of Morgan Composting Inc. spoke about mulches and the owner of Hibiscus Hills Nursery answered many questions about annuals and perennials.

This month the garden club will meet on Thursday, July 14 at 5:30 p.m. at Hollister Senior Center and then tour the Luther Museum. Members will also make decorations for their float at the 55th Troutarama Parade. If you are interested in joining them and would like more information, please call Karan Hosler at (231) 832-3929.
